BAFTA: Tinie Tempah & Laura Mvula To Give Opening Performance

The British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) announced Thursday that the performers to open the EE British Academy Film Awards 2014 will be the multi-platinum-selling artists Tinie Tempah and Mercury Prize nominee Laura Mvula.

the artists will group up on awards night to perform Tinie Tempah’s hit single “Heroes”, which features in Tinie’s new album Demonstration. The performance will see them follow in the footsteps of the legendary Tom Jones and multi-Brit Award nominee, Paloma Faith, which have both also had the honor of opening the prestigious ceremony.

The news was first announced by Tinie Tempah himself from his verified twitter account:

Tinie Tempah also commented on the upcoming performance saying “I’m extremely excited to be opening the EE British Academy Film Awards performing ‘Heroes’ with the incredible Laura Mvula. As an internationally renowned British institution, it’s a huge honour to be performing there. This song was inspired by film scores and theme songs so I’m looking forward to showcasing what British music has to offer in front of the world’s film industry elite..”

Laura Mvula added a comment on the upcoming performance saying “I’m really excited to be opening the show with Tinie Tempah – especially as it’s been such an amazing year for film. It’s definitely a bit scary when I think about who will be there but we’re going to put everything into the performance and it’s a big song so it really lends itself to film.

The EE British Academy Film Awards will take place on 16 February at The Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden. Stephen Fry will be returning to host this year’s ceremony, which will be broadcast exclusively on BBC One in the UK and in all major territories around the world.
