Golden Globes 2017: Winners List

The 74th Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday and the winner of the night was indisputably La La Land.

Not only did La La Land gather a substantial several wins it has also become the first film in Golden Globes history to win seven awards. That is along with becoming the first film to be honored with more than four wins since the Oliver Stone scribed Midnight Express received six Golden Globes in 1979, which was the previous record holder. Those prized awards include Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture and Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture.

Leading the Drama side of the film categories trailing in the wake of La La Land’s success was Elle. The film’s star Isabelle Huppert won Best Performance by an Actress and the film also collected the award for Best Foreign Language Motion Picture. From there onwards the Drama winners are rather level with Moonlight taking Best Motion Picture and Casey Affleck collecting Best Performance by an Actor for Manchester by the Sea.

The television winner of the night was The Night Manager taking three Globes for Actor, Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series or Television Movie. Followed closely behind by Netflix’s The Crown with two wins for Best Drama Series and Claire Foy winning Best Actress in a Drama. The other two shows of the night to collect two awards are FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Atlanta.

The television categories also presented a big surprise of their own with the Globes leaving HBO in the dust. The network collected a total of zero awards despite being the most nominated network of the night with spots in fourteen categories and it’s notable debut of the new series Westworld.
