WGA Awards 2015: The Winners (LIVE)

On Saturday night, Lisa Kudrow and Larry Wilmore simultaneous hosted The Writers Guild of America West and East award ceremonies held at both the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and the Edison Ballroom in New York.

UPDATED: This years screenplay awards where bestowed upon both an expecting and surprising nominees. The award for Best Original Screenplay was The Grand Budapest Hotel, which was written by Director Wes Anderson; Story by Wes Anderson & Hugo Guinness. The award for Best Adapted Screenplay was given surprisingly to The Imitation Game, which was written by Graham Moore; Based on the book Alan Turing. This win for The Imitation Game marks one of the few awards that The Weinstein Company has gathered this season despite their three previously praised contenders Big Eyes, The Imitation Game and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.

As for television tonight, the winner of Best Drama Series was HBO’s True Detective, written by Nic Pizzolatto. True Detective was again a surprise winner given the previous drama winner of this season to date was amongst the nominees, Netflix’s House of Cards, written by Beau Willimon.

The award for Best Comedy Series went to FX’s Louie, written by Louis CK. Compared to the season so far Louie was the third and most unexpected winner of the night, till this point the award for Best Comedy Series has been reserved for online originals including Amazon’s Transparent, written by Jill Soloway, which won best comedy series at the Golden Globes in January and Netflix’s Orange is the New Black.
