A24 Films has announced, late on Friday, release dates for two of its recent acquisitions Laggies & The Rover.
‘Laggies’ which recently screened at the Sundance Film Festival is set to have its debut wide released on September 26th. The film was cherished by critics and applauded by audiences at the recent Sundance screenings where the films stars Chloë Grace Moretz and Keira Knightley also made an appearance. The film follows a woman stuck in permanent adolescence lies to her fiancé about going on a retreat and spends the time hanging out with friends instead.
The other release announced by A24 Films today is ‘The Rover’ which will hit LA and New York silver screens on July 18th although it is currently unclear whether the film will receive a wide release although with a cast including Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson it’s only a matter of time. The Rover is set in the Australian desert in a dangerous and dysfunctional near future. Eric has left everything and every semblance of human kindness behind him. When his last possession, his car, is stolen by a gang of dangerous criminals, Eric sets off to track them down and is forced along the way to enlist the help of Reynolds, the naive member of the gang left behind in the bloody chaos of the gang’s most recent escape.
Some of the other recent acquisitions by A24 Films include Enemy, Locke and Under The Skin. They have also recently released the awards hopeful Spring Breakers along with The Spectacular Now, The Bling Ring and the 2012 festival success Ginger & Rosa. They also acquired Life After Beth at the recent sundance film festival which is also still waiting upon a release date.
