We will continue to update this post with the latest news as its announced. The complete official Cannes Film Festival Lineup will be announced on April 17th.
Grace of Monaco – Confirmed (According to Cannes Film Festival Organisers)
The first film and the only film currently confirmed by the Cannes Film Festival is Olivier Dahan’s Grace of Monaco, which was discreetly screened at last years festival and was very quickly picked up by Harvey Weinstein after seeing the award potential of the feature length biographical drama. The drama which will be opening the 67th Cannes International Film Festival.
Foxcatcher – Confirmed (According to Reporting)
After having its release bumped from late last year to late 2014 Foxcatcher is a highly likely participant in the Cannes competition lineup after being removed from the AFI Film Festival gala lineup in November, 2013, shortly after its release was rescheduled. The Channing Tatum, Channing Tatum, Channing Tatum, Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller staring feature follows the story of Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Schultz and how paranoid schizophrenic John duPont killed his brother, Olympic Champion Dave Schultz. However it’s currently unclear just weather the film will be in competition at the festival.
Hellion – Confirmed (According to PR Announcement)
The film will screen out of competition at the festival.
Birdman – Possibility (According to Reporting)
Being called a contender for the Palme d’Or, its likely that Birdman will be premiering in competition at the festival.
Clouds of Sils Maria – Possibility (According to Sources)
Olivier Assayas’ feature production that sees Kristen Stewart and Chloë Grace Moretz perform side by side has been called a possibility to be screened at the festival however its is currently unclear just weather the film will be in competition at the festival.
Big Eyes – Possibility (According to Sources)
How to Catch a Monster – Possibility (According to Reporting)
How to Catch a Monster which was announced during last years Cannes Film Festival is a definite possibility for the festivals out of competition lineup.
Maps To The Stars – Possibility (According to Reporting)
Nymphomaniac – Extremely Unlikely (According to Reporting)
Despite the talks and rumours it is extremely unlikely that Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac will be making its way to the Cannes Film Festival in competition. Especially after the festival’s director Thierry Fremaux publicly dismissed the two volume film saying that although the festival will welcome back the Danish director to the Croisette, even given his past ban and being declared “persona non grata” (an unacceptable or unwelcome person), Fremaux said the film’s December 25th Denmark release date will disqualify it from competition at the 2014 festival. It is also looking more unlikely that the film will be heading to Cannes out of competition, given that the films release dates in principle territories have already been set for the months leading up to the festival giving it limited reasons to screen at Cannes.
The Fault in Our Stars – Possibility
With a June 6 release it appears extremely likely that The Fault in Our Stars will be heading to the Cannes Film Festival this year. The Shailene Woodley staring feature production follows two teenagers Hazel and Gus, who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous given that Hazel’s other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group.
The Caravan – Confirmed (According to IMDB)
The Imitation Game – Possibility
After being picked up during the Berlin Film Festival by The Weinstein Company, The Imitation Game, bringing together Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley and Charles Dance, is a very likely pick for the Cannes Film Festival given The Weinstein Company’s history of bringing their highlighted films along with them in previous years gathering multiple awards every year and with a seven million dollar acquisition it is one of the highest acquisitions by Harvey Weinstein this year and is likely to continue strongly into the 2015 awards season.
Three Days of Theater (Finland) – Confirmed (According to IMDB)
The Homesman – Confirmed (According to Reporting)
The Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank starring feature drama is also directed by Tommy Lee Jones, and co-written with Kieran Fitzgerald with Wesley Oliver. Based on a novel of same name by Glendon Swarthout The Homesman follows a claim jumper and a pioneer woman and the film focuses on when they both team up to escort three insane women from Nebraska to Iowa.
These are currently shaping up to be the leaders of the Cannes Film Festival line up although there are also many other contenders in route. Even though the Cannes Organisers have not yet given any hints regarding the films the lineup will contain they have announced that the Cannes Jury will be lead by the 67th Cannes Jury President Jane Campion.
