Universal took to Cinema Con this week to debut trailers and footage for a presentation featuring its most anticipated upcoming pictures Fast & Furious 7 and Unbroken, which was introduced by Angelina Jolie herself.
Universal also showed teaser footage for a group of its leading franchises with upcoming films including the only recently announced ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ with its November 14th release later this year. Staying on the franchise tracks Universal also showed some teaser footage from it’s dino blockbuster Jurassic Park’s fourth installment ‘Jurassic World’ which will be released in cinemas in June 2015. The Jurassic footage was mainly a concept trailer given filming on the feature has not officially begun just yet. Attendees were also treated to a look at the upcoming August release of Scarlett Johansson’s out of this world thriller ‘Lucy’ which follows a kidnapped woman surgically turned into a drug mule, which transforms her mind into the pinnacle of human capability. Allowing her to develop superhuman powers and the ability to move objects with her mind.
Moving into comedy Universal also screened an extended trailer for A Million Ways to Die in the West, which showed glimpses of the film which where not even included in the recently released red band trailer – definitely creating a lot of anticipation on that front. As well as Seth Rogen’s hypable ‘Neighbors’ which they screened a package of footage for; there is also a screening taking at the convention for Neighbors which previously premiered early this month at the SXSW Film Festival.
Sequel and spinoff wise the presentation also gave us a look at the sequel to the social media manic Pitch Perfect 2. Also debuted at Cinema Con was the Despicable Me spinoff ‘Minions’ which looks very exciting in a prequel tone, with minutes of really hilarious footage being screened of the beloved Minions as they travel around the globe.
Along with these features, Universal also brought along a surprise package of footage from its upcoming erotic romance picture Fifty Shades of Grey – introduced by studio chair Donna Langley saying “Nobody outside the studio has seen a frame of footage.” Universal’s Fifty Shades of Grey first look that was screened during the presentation previews a shot, which seems very similar to E. L. James’ novel, depicting a meeting between Grey portrayed by Jamie Dornan and Anastasia Steele played by Dakota Johnson.
Overall it looks like Universal certainly has a very diverse and interesting slate coming up, all of the studios upcoming pictures are destined for success, if this sizzlin look is anything to go by.
