With even more fans and cinemagoers than last year eagerly awaiting the second instalment of the Divergent series, Lionsgate has announced today that it will be releasing ‘Insurgent’ in both 3D and 2D.
Producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher commented in a statement on the decision to bring the Divergent franchise into the realm of 3D saying “The second film in the Divergent franchise takes the story and action to another level and, by partnering with RealD, we were able to blend gripping performances and mind-blowing spectacle to create a unique event on screen, we cannot wait to share this experience with audiences around the world.”
Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
The first Divergent film grossed nearly $300 million at the global box office last year, and Veronica Roth’s Divergent book series has already sold nearly 30 million copies around the world. The third and fourth installments in the franchise, entitled Allegiant Part One and Part Two are slated to be released on March 18th, 2016 and March 24th, 2017, respectively.
Insurgent Hits Theaters on March 20, 2015.
