Jesse Eisenberg Cast To Play Lex Luthor With Jeremy Irons In Superman vs Batman

While the Superman vs Batman film will arrive in 2016, it has been confirmed that British acting legend Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg have been cast as Alfred and Lex Luthor.

Irons will play the role of Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred who has previously been played by Michael Caine and Michael Gough whilst Eisenberg follows in the footsteps of Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey who have played Superman’s nemesis on the big screen. Lex is the billionaire owner of LexCorp.

In an interview last year, Superman vs Batman screenwriter David S Goyer commented saying that the character will be transformed into “a Bill Gates-like Lex that is probably worth 50, 60, 70 billion dollars. It’s a very different Lex.” Also talking about Eisenberg’s casting, Snyder explained “Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavoury reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.

Set for release on May 6 2016, Superman vs Batman will see the return of Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne to their respective roles along with the addition of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Henry Cavill as Superman.
