After the recent world premiere of the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It has been reported that the fourth instalment of the franchise could be released later than 2018 – despite the current release date which is set for May 4, 2018.
While the release date of May 4th might not be used to release the fourth Spider-Man movie it will be used for another Sony release relating to the world of the Amazing Spider-Man. Most likely the release date slot set by Sony could be filled instead with a spin-off featuring the confirmed ‘Sinister Six’ film or the un-announced spin off every fan has been anticipating ‘Venom’.
The story first surfaced when during a discussion Sony’s Matt Tolmach said that things regarding the release date may be in flux. Tolmach said that before Sony knows what to “do with Spider-Man 4, we’re going to do Sinister Six, Venom and Spider-Man 3. There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies, So we’re just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. So we don’t know yet what it is going to be.”
Other news in relation to the fourth instalment is that franchise’s current director Marc Webb will not be returning to direct the Amazing Spider-Man 4. Although, Webb has stated that he is open to returning to the franchise, following his exit after directing his third Spider-Man movie. It was also recently announced Drew Goddard will be directing the Amazing Spider-Man spin-off ‘Sinister Six’.
In current Amazing Spider-Man news, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in the UK on April 16th and in the US on May 2nd.
