The Big Bang Theory Could Be Around For Another Three Years

With a selection of long-running series sitcoms including How I Met Your Mother finally heading to a final closure, it has been reported that the cast of the seven season running Big Bang Theory have entered talks for a three year long contract with CBS, which would guarantee fans at least another three seasons of the Emmy Award winning comedy.

Taking a look back, since the shows premiere back in 2007, it has snatched five Emmy Awards alongside 27 Emmy nominations and has been nominated for a Golden Globes three years in a row. The cast have also experienced a rise in stardom since the shows pilot aired seven years ago, as Kaley Cuoco better known as Penny has hosted numerous awards shows including the MTV Movie Awards along with Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki who have also taken up roles in feature films the likes of which include The Big Year, Wish I Was Here, In Time and who have both been invited to voice guest roles in the popular animated comedy Family Guy.

Since there is very little tightened storyline between episodes of the CBS comedy it is likely that the show will continue its success and won’t be heading anywhere soon as long as series starters Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Big Bag lead director Mark Cendrowski can continue to create a hilarious cocktail of comedy, wackiness and Sheldon domination.

For the very small proportion of comedy lovers who haven’t watched The Big Bang Theory the sitcom follows Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper who are both brilliant physicists working at Caltech in Pasadena, California. They are colleagues, best friends, and roommates, although in all capacities their relationship is always tested primarily by Sheldon’s regimented, deeply eccentric, and non-conventional ways. They are also friends with their Caltech colleagues mechanical engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali. The foursome spend their time working on their individual work projects, playing video games, watching science-fiction movies, or reading comic books. As they are self-professed nerds, all have little or no luck with popular women. When Penny, a pretty woman and an aspiring actress originally from Omaha, moves into the apartment across the hall from Leonard and Sheldon’s, Leonard has another aspiration in life, namely to get Penny to be his girlfriend.

Deadline have estimated that because of the low starting point of $350,000 for Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco, the deal is extremely likely to surpass $1 million. If the deal goes ahead it will push The Big Bang Theory over the edge of success as it will become one of the longest-running sitcoms in TV history out airing 20th century sitcom success Friends in length and ratings. The move follows the CBS cancellation of fall premiering sitcom ‘We Are Men’ and the incoming ending of long-running How I Met Your Mother which will be a huge blow to CBS’ comedy ratings.
