MIP TV: VICE’s Showcase

The explosive creators, Shane Smith and Eddy Moretti, of the rapidly expanding online Emmy nominated content network VICE, took to Cannes for a presentation at the MIP TV conference showing attendees a rundown of its highly reputable network – which is ripping the veil of the world as we know it and opening the worlds culture to the web.

Vice, now in the company of a young audience totaling over four million, used the opportunity at MIP TV to showboat a selection of its new series – which have and will be debuting this year, including:

Munchies – Vice’s new food channel created in association with Fremantle Media. Munchies is the new food channel an alternative look at cooking for the new generation.

Fresh Off the Boat – Is about the transition of cities from America to London, Mongolia and China. Exploring the different cultures of civilizations around the world from the perspective of a young chef.

Toxic – Focuses on the changing planet investigating climate change and our ecosystem’s collapse on an international scale. Brought about to help raise awareness to the young generation and save the planet.

Vice News – VICE News is an international news channel created by and for a connected generation. Our documentaries and original news series bring you an unvarnished look at some of the most important events of our time, and shine a light on underreported stories around the globe. Unorthodox and at times irreverent, we get to the heart of the matter and call it like we see it.

Blackmarket – Investigating the hidden underground of corrupting every community and civilization across the world.

Vice Sports – The definitive look at sports culture for the modern age with Brian Duffy.

VICE’s presentation brought to light another project being fermented by Vice with is their new food network. In addition to mentioning some of their current online shows, exploring new digital fronts – including:

Motherboard – Which is an online magazine and video channel dedicated to the intersection of technology, science and humans. Launched by VICE in 2009, Motherboard raises its eyebrows at the people and things that are making our weird and wonderful present and future, with news, commentary, in-depth reporting, photos, and original video documentaries. Dipping liberally into politics, art, sex, drugs, war, design, nature, space, history and sci-fi, Motherboard skips the useless tech hype to keep its cascade of tabs open to the stuff you should know.

Noisey & Thump – Noisey is the premier music news channel for the new young generation. Thump is the world’s newest authority on electronic everything.

In a showcase video which opened the presentation the one of the founders of Vice Shane Smith referred to the network as the “Time Warner of the street” and Bill Maher also said during an interview with Vice’s founders, on his show Real Time, is that “One of the reasons why Vice does so well is replace the media, which doesn’t do so well.”

Along with mentioning their ‘Creators Project’ which launched in 2010, The Creators Project includes daily video and editorial content based on original artwork commissions and global events. So far there are more than 500 Creators from around the world.
