The the always talented and vivacious cast of The Originals, alongside spellbinding executive producers Julie Plec and Michael Narducci, joined fans for the annual PaleyFest TV festival tonight at the Dolby Theater in the heart of Hollywood.
If you haven’t seen the show, the series is a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries and set in New Orleans, The Originals centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world’s original vampires: Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah. Now Klaus must take down his protégé, Marcel, who is now in charge of New Orleans, in order to re-take his city, as he originally built New Orleans. Klaus departed from the city after being chased down by his father Mikael, while it was being constructed and Marcel took charge. As Klaus has returned after many years, his ego has provoked him to become the king of the city. “Every King needs an heir” says Klaus, accepting the unborn child. The child is a first to be born to a hybrid and a werewolf.
The panel at the fest, with a crowd of continually screaming fans, joined the cast as they discussed their series The Originals and as Claire Holt talked about her decision to leave the series.
The highlights from the panel have been transcribed for all you Originals fans out there, just below.
One of the main highlights of the evening was when Claire Holt talked about her decision to leave the series and assuring fans that she might still return, with this possibly being temporary saying “These incredibly talented writers did not run out of story, I wasn’t pushed out, I didn’t quit midseason. This was something we discussed from the start and I completed my original commitment and I made a life choice and not a career choice.” Holt went on to say that she will be spending time relaxing in the sun with her family, she also said that she hopes “there will be many more stories to tell” assuring fans that this is a temporary exit from the series.
Phoebe Tonkin also talked about what she loves about The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals and the opportunity it has given her character Hayley saying “I think what’s really cool about The Originals, it gives these characters more screentime essentially to explore their backstories to explore their histories, their pasts. I think especially with Haily we only got to see a little bit of her and I think maybe people have made up their minds about her before really getting to know her and I think what’s been really great about this show in the last twenty or so episodes is its really grow with Haley learning who she is and not just who he is presented as initially.”
One of the other and final highlights of the night was when the cast talked about what its like killing off characters on the show, especially as it happens so often. Julie Plec said that its their policy to tell the actors when they are going to be killed off. But she also admitted that sometimes things fall between the cracks and they sometimes forget to tell actors that they’re coming back. One time that was pointed out was when Danielle Campbell was filming and the script came out and she had no idea she was being killed off. Then when she found out she got worried and emailed to Plec, who then remembered to tell her that the death was just temporary. Plec then laughed saying “When you forget it’s really awkward.”
The Originals airs on The CW Tuesdays 7/8c.
